Professor Drake decides to join the UC Vanguard.

The quest begins when speaking to Commander Tuala and ends after completing the flight simulator and swearing in to the UC Vanguard.
There are multiple benefits to doing this at this time:

1. Money - The UC Vanguard gives you a stipend upon swearing in.
2. Piloting skill progress - If you complete all six tiers, you must destroy 15 enemies. This can be repeated each time you want more skil progress.
3. UC Vanguard ship components - After completing the first quest, you will be allowed to purchase Vanguard specific components, most notibly the 2 energy weapons and the high defense shields.

Professor Drake is doing it now to unlock the weapons and the shields before proceeding to some additional side quests. For purpsoses of the training simulator only, the difficulty for space combat is set to minimal levels. I'll admit, I cannot beat tier 6 with the difficulty cranked up!

Grunt Work

Professor Drake heads off to Tau Ceti II to repair their coms and finds a surprise waiting for him.

The quest begins after searing in to the UC Vanguard with Commander Tuala and ends after returning to Commander Tuala for permission to delivery the terrormorph sample.

Delivering Devils

Professor Drake goes looking for Dr. Percival Walker.

The quest beings when completing Grunt Work and ends back in Cydonia at the Sixth Circle.

Eyewitness

Professor Drake saves New Atlantis from a terrormorph attack and gets the cooperation from the council to investigate further.

The quest beings when completing Delivering Devils and ends upon returning to the council following the elimination of the threat at the spaceport.

Friends Like These

Professor Drake convinces both the Freestar Collective and the House Va'ruun ambassadors to support the anti-terrormorph agenda.

The quest beings when completing Eyewitness and ends upon swearing in as a UC Citizen.

The Devils You Know

Professor Drake meets Vae Victis runs a mission for him to get the Red Devil researches for Hadrian.

The quest beings when completing Friends Like These and ends returning to Vae with Orlase genetags.

War Relics

Professor Drake retrieves Kaiser from Niira.

The quest beings when completing Devils You Know and ends returning to Red Devil HQ with Kaiser.

Hostile Intelligence

While collecting samples from Londinion, Professor Drake discovers the secret of terrormorphs and the party responsible for the attacks.

The quest beings when completing War Relics and ends when returning to base and discussing with the team.

A Legacy Forged

After discovering the source of the terrormorph attacks, Professor Drake presents his findings to the UC Council and casts the deciding vote on how to proceed.

The quest beings when completing Hostile Intelligence and ends after addressing the council.

Vanguard Bug Hunt

Profressor Drake takes a mission from Cdr. Tuala to take out some Terrormorphs. This is a repeatable quest.
